Safety shoes with the HRO (Heat Resistant Outsole) requirement, compliant with EN ISO 20345, are equipped with outsoles resistant to heat by direct contact with very high temperature surfaces. The certification test involves the contact of the sole with a heated surface at 300°C for 60 seconds: at the end of the test the sole must not show visible damage such as melting, deformation, layer separation or cracking, and its dimensions must not vary beyond the limits provided by the standard. The HRO requirement differs from HI due to the structural resistance of the outsole to heat from direct and point contact at high temperatures, while the HI requirement certifies that heat is not transmitted inside the footwear. HRO safety shoes are indispensable for work in foundries, steel mills, glassworks, ceramic industries, industrial flooring with slag or molten metal and any environment where the ground can reach very high temperatures.
